South Oxford Community Centre occupies a large Victorian building in Lake Street, off the Abingdon Road, about one mile from Oxford city centre. It looks out across the popular Hinksey Park.
The Centre is managed by a charity, the South Oxford Community Association, whose Trustees care about the Community Centre and the local community and give their time voluntarily.
The Centre has a number of rooms for hire, all reasonably priced for small or larger family occasions, group meetings, exercise and recreational classes, training and seminars. A programme of regular groups and classes run from the Centre. The Centre is home to the thriving South Oxford Farmers Market and hosts the South Oxford WI.
The South Oxford Community Association also directly runs a number of projects including:
Art events, classes and exhibitions organised by a group of local artists known as South Oxford Arts.
Weekly Community Café each Tuesday and Thursday so members of the community can get together.
The Centre runs a regular bingo group each Wednesday.
A Community Fridge is a project started with funding from Oxford City Council in 2022 and provides an opportunity for the local community to help reduce food waste by both donating and saving surplus produce going to waste.
The Community Centre is home for the thriving South Oxford Farmers Market each Sunday morning and has been home for Hinksey Sculling for many years with regular sessions held across the week for many age groups. A number of martial arts groups run at the Centre for children and adults as well as several yoga groups.
