Artweeks at the Centre

As long-time participant in the Oxfordshire Artweeks festivals, each year South Oxford Arts hosts exhibitions at the Community Centre on behalf of the South Oxford Community Association.

Artweeks May 2023

Saturday & Sunday 20th, 21st, 27th, 28th and Bank holiday Monday 29th May 1.00-6.00pm

As part of Oxfordshire Artweeks.

Supported by the South Oxford Community Association and organised by South Oxford Arts we will hold an exhibition on 2 floors of the community centre. With art in various forms of art from acrylic to oils and charcoal to watercolours. Many original art on sale as well as smaller items and cards.

Refreshments are available.

Saturday 20th May, 6.30–9.30 pm

Evening event features musicians and poets, based on a broad theme of “The Greater American Songbook”. Entry is free and there will be a bar and a raffle to raise funds for South Oxford Arts to support local arts activities.

Portraits with Jane Kelly

Cost: £15.00 per person concessions available

Learn portraiture with any media. We have three hours with one pose in which we can produce some carefully observed, well-crafted work, whether you end up with dozens or one piece to take home.

Hate the waste? Learn the easy way to recycle furniture with chalk paint with Jini Hetherington
Date: Tuesday, 23 May 2023
Timing: 6.00-9.00pm
Cost: £15.00 per person concessions available

Learn the method of chalk painting and waxing furniture. There are places for four participants and you’ll go home invigorated about giving a new lease of life to something you found discarded on the street or that has been sitting in your garage for years that you can’t bear to part with.

Experiment with Monoprint with Rahima Kenner
Date: Thursday, 25 May 2023
Timing: 6.00-9.00pm
Cost: £15.00 per person concessions available

Learn a way of making a one-off painting by transferring ink from a plastic or metal surface onto your paper. There are several methods, involving adding layers or subtracting ink and also using stencils. These can be combined in all sorts of ways for fascinating images. Please bring an apron.

Sue Eves Paint Your Own Duckling
Date: Saturdays 20 & 27 May
Timing: 2pm – 4pm
Cost: FREE Children must be accompanied by an adult

Come and paint ducklings on jam jars and be part of our South Oxford Arts exhibition! A drop-in afternoon with Sue Eves. Paint away and have your duckling jar on display.
