Community Cafe

The Community Café opened in September 2019. From 2-4pm each Tuesday the Lower hall is transformed into a welcoming and lively café where delicious home-baked cakes and fresh ground coffee donated by Jericho Coffee Traders are served to our community.

It is a truly inter-generational affair, from new born babies, their parents, carers and families up to our most senior regular who is 85!

For young families living away from grandparents and more senior customers perhaps living alone, the benefits have been wonderful to see. Areas have been carefully created to reflect this but are by no means rigid. For smaller infants a play mat and soft toy area, a story telling corner, craft and card swap table for older children, Games tables and quieter spaces for those who just wish to sit, meet neighbours and chat or play Scrabble.

Hinksey Sculling School based here at the centre, have been offering additional Erg Training to adults in the community and Parkinsons Patients to help improve mental and physical well-being, members join us after training for a well-earned cuppa and chance to socialise.

Volunteers who live locally and from the Better Opportunities programme at Activate Learning have come forward to bake and help run the café which is hugely appreciated.

Now also on a Tuesday morning between 10 and midday, we are offering a small Baking Class that will produce cakes etc for the café – please contact sarah if you are interested.

Otherwise, just pop-in if you are at a loose end or need to get out for some company, a cuppa and cake and you are guaranteed a very warm welcome.

You can find out about all the other things on offer at the centre and how you can get involved.

Someone who has recently moved in to the area posted on Social media that the community café on a Tuesday was a “highlight” of the move.
